CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Our summer pattern of warm temperatures, high humidity, strong winds and abundant sunshine will continue to progress through the week and will support above normal temperatures in South Texas.
The large high pressure “heat dome” will be slowly pushed south by a low pressure trough that is expected to swing across northern parts of the state by Saturday.
As that happens, we will see temperatures warm to even warmer levels on Friday and Saturday afternoon. Then, as the disturbance moves northeast, it will send a weak cold front through the region late Saturday and early next week and bring largely isolated showers to the region.
There’s not going to be a ton of precipitation in the area, and it’s definitely not the drought-relieving rain we’re all looking for, but it’s definitely a start to seeing a different weather pattern and that’s certainly welcome . Rainfall amounts appear to average about a tenth to a quarter inch of rain from the start of Sunday through the end of Monday.
In the meantime, we will still be dealing with very hot temperatures and high heat index values. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and cool. Be sure to check with your family and friends to make sure they are finding ways to beat the heat as well. Also, be mindful of pets outside and make sure they have shade and access to fresh water.
The 6WEATHER team is also keeping tabs on the tropics as we are just over two weeks away from the start of the Atlantic hurricane season. There is still no concern for us at this stage, but we are monitoring the possibility of a low pressure area forming in the gulf in the coming days. Also, the first major Saharan dust complex is crossing the Atlantic and is expected to arrive later in the weekend here and will bring more haze to our skies.
