As February comes halfway through, a holiday honoring meaningful relationships makes its way to Venice High – Valentine’s Day.
This year, Venice High offers many opportunities for gifts and other events to participate in with your loved ones, including bouquets from the garden, fake wedding ceremonies and musical telegrams.
Many Valentine’s Day gifts will need to be ordered in advance.
This year, Valentine’s Day will feature bouquets from the Garden Club. The flowers are from the Los Angeles Flower District.
The flowers will be decorated with newspaper and brown paper, sealed with twine and delivered during the period chosen by the donor.
“People can choose arrangements of different colors,” said Senior Patricia Santiago, co-chair of the Garden Club. “Each color has a different meaning.”
Bouquets are also ordered via Google form and cost between $7 and $12 depending on the size.
Today is the last day to buy a bouquet.
On Valentine’s Day, ASB Leadership will celebrate its annual weddings during nutrition and lunch in the central campus quad on the outdoor stage. For $5 (cash only), the club will give away a union certificate and a Polaroid photo as well as two Ring Pops.
There is no compulsory registration. Students will line up with their fiancés and pay in advance.
“If people want to break tradition and marry a stuffed animal or something, they could do that too,” said Lee, the ASB adviser. “You know, it’s a fun time.”
The group will tour the school and deliver Saxy Grams on Valentine’s Day. You can purchase this telegram for $10 now, cash only, in room 3 during nutrition and lunch or at the cafeteria set table. Today is the last day to receive your order form.
The delivery is personalized by period and a choice of song is offered to you on the order form available in store. There is no online form.
“Your delivery time cannot be guaranteed as we deliver to different classes,” said group manager David Lee. “We also need to make sure the schedule is covered by the musicians in the band as well as a courtesy with the teachers’ lesson plans.”
Valentine’s Day Grams
The Class of 2022 is bringing students pre-ordered Valentine’s Day Grams Monday during the second term. They will accept gram requests through a Google form and it will cost $3 on Venmo or in cash delivered to science teacher Julia Bare in room 246.
Grams will include a teddy bear, Hershey’s Kisses, and a handwritten note with your own message on it, wrapped in red and white.
Today is the last day to buy, but as of now, grams are sold out.
In addition to the Valentine’s Day events, there will be a blood drive later this month.
On Wednesday, February 23, ASB will partner with Cedars Sinai for their annual blood drive. Students will need to be at least 16 years old and have a parental consent slip signed and printed before making a donation.
Appointments are still available to be booked online between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in 15-minute increments and will take place in the cafeteria.
